An emperor for the animals

An emperor for the animals  is a fantasy in which the animals have come together to save themselves from extinction at the hands of man. The animals in turn want to set up their own prime ministers, governors, presidents, kings and a supreme leader, an emperor to look after their well being.
The animals are divided into three groups, fishes and creatures that live in water, the birds both of land and air and the animals that live on the land. Things begin to take a turn for the worst however as disagreements soon surface because man is the object of a battle between two great powers and soon the animals found out that they were aligned with one or the other of the two great powers.
Man too is aligned with with the two great powers and a third group of the animals and birds are totally committed to man who is their master.
The two great powers too are preparing for war and the animals and birds are being courted for support with one side wanting to see the destruction of man and the other want the preservation of man.

If the unsuspecting were observing the group of animals lying in the shade of the lone tree in the middle of the pasture they would have thought it was a group of animals that necessity had forced to cooperate. This was far from being the case because it was a deliberate gathering of animals. The sun was extremely hot and this aided their purpose. These were domesticated farm animals and the pasture was a part of the farm. The animals that were present under the tree were not strangers to each other because all belonged to the farm and of necessity came into constant contact. They dozed while they awaited the arrival of the last member of the group. There was no rush and they knew that he certainly was not far but he could not travel in the hot sun. Dog had given them assurance that he was nearby because he could pick up his scent in the wind.
There were gathered under the tree Thomp the cat, Bhujom the dog, Brestie the parrot and Mantock the rooster. Seemingly out of nowhere a cloud blocked out the sun and a quick light shower of rain fell. It was enough to allow the final member to join the group. It was a monstrous old battle scarred boar and he did not belong to the farm. He did not extend any courtesy or greeting when he joined the group but immediately grunted a question, “Why didn’t you invite one of the domestic pigs instead of a boar from the wild?” This was Porsker the wild boar and he asked the question of the other animals.
Bhujom the dog stared at the boar and could not recognize him although he though he knew every wild animal that roamed the area. It was obvious that he was mistaken.
“The domestic pigs most times are in pens and sties. We could arrange for one to escape and pigs are legendary in their ability to survive in the wild but we do not believe that we have the luxury of waiting on a pig to learn. This is why we turn to you who has survived for so long in the wild,”  Bhujom the dog explained.
“Why are we meeting,” Porsker the boar grunted.
“At the meeting of the animals some time ago we offered our assistance and services to the animals but so far none of us have been called upon to be of service to anyone. Is this an indication that we are useless and is of no use to the fishes, the birds or the animals? Or is it that our services are not needed? Presently battle lines have been drawn and there are two sides getting ready to go to war, do we decide on which side to align ourselves? Do we remain neutral or do we allow ourselves to be forced to take sides?” This was Brestie the parrot speaking with man’s voice. They all except for the boar had been born and grown in the presence of man and had spent plenty time in man’s house so they knew the language of man.
“We are all independent spirits but I believe that we should throw in our lot with the winner,” crowed Montock rooster.
“The battle has not been fought as yet so we cannot decide who will win,” grunted Porsker the boar.
“That is true and whoever loses stand to lose big,” barked Bhujom dog.
“Let us look at the options and discuss each on its own merit,” purred Thomp the cat.
“That is sensible talking” grunted Porsker the boar as he nodded agreement to the Thomp the cat’s statement.
“The arguments that we have gathered from the other animals have indicated the King El Olam and The Light Bearer are getting ready to battle and the prize to be won is man. Man however is the fishes, bird, mammals and animal’s enemy but we have been a part of man’s house hold and he generally treats us good. In some instances he regards us as part of his family and treats us just as well as how he treats his children. He does not eat us …” it was Thomp the cat that was purring the virtues of man when he was interrupted by Porsker the boar.
“Speak for yourself because I am raised en mass for food by man and that is why he treats me so well. Mantock the Rooster’s leg and breast are considered the best parts of his body. It is only parrot I know that does not get eaten by man. Thomp the cat and Bhujom the dog you are served in restaurants as delicacies,”Porsker the boar grunted.
The others grinned sheepishly knowing that Porsker the boar spoke the truth.
“Okay I will admit that we do not face the threat of extinction except parrot as does some fishes, birds and animals so do we support or fight against man?” Porsker the boar grunted.
“Man is just the prize that King El Olam and The Light Bearer will Battle over. Man is aligned two to one in favor of The Light Bearer but King El Olam cannot lose.” Brestie Parrot said.
“We are devoted to man and he regards us as a part of his family so whichever side our masters are on there we must align ourselves. I am afraid that the same thing applies to Thomp the cat and Brestie the parrot” Bhujom the dog said. That leaves Montock the rooster and you Porsker the pig.
“The reality of things is that as far as I can understand only Montock the rooster is acceptable to King El Olam. Dog is always an object of contempt and whenever an animal is to be singled out as being abominable to King El Olam then I am the chosen one, the next is dog. Parrot and cat you are so insignificant that you are not mentioned in his annals but it is for us to understand the importance of man in the whole scheme of things.” Porsker the boar grunted.
“According to Theldon the donkey man is the masterpiece of King El Olam’s creation. King El Olam expects man to operate according to the highest standards but The Light Bearer seeks to degrade and debase man. Debasing man is an effective way of debasing King El Olam because man is a reflection of King El Olam.” Bhujom the dog barked.
“I in no way consider myself to be equal to man …”Porsker the boar had stopped grunting out his statement and was rolling with laughter.
“What is it that you find to be so funny?” Thomp the cat meowed.
“Some of us are in serious trouble and it is not of our own making. Man takes us and does so many things to us and calls us his family. Sometimes he even treats us better than his fellowman. If man is a reflection of King El Olam, can you imagine how King El Olam must be feeling feel when he sees man embracing us as part of his family at the expense of his fellowman? How King El Olam must pull his hair in despair because man is essentially a reflection of King El Olam and man elevating us to being like himself is elevating us and degrading King El Olam on the other hand.” Porsker the boar grunted. “Let me state it categorically we are not neither do we desire to be elevated to being equal to man or King El Olam,” Porsker the boar finished. He was serious and had stopped laughing.
“What you say boar is true and it is not funny,” Brestie parrot lamented.
“That is what you call being caught in a sticky situation,” Montock the rooster crowed.
“Can we remain neutral?” Thomp the cat asked the other animals.
“I can but you cannot because I continue to live in the wild and I have millions like myself living in the wild. Those pigs that are domesticated and you have to align with your masters, so that means the choice is taken out of your hands and you side with your masters whichever side they support,” Porsker the boar grunted.
“What will eventually become of us?” Brestie the parrot screeched.
“The State of Utopia does not sound like a bad idea to me. In the wild we hunt and kill each other but on the farm and inside of man’s house you are obliged to live in peace and harmony. Maybe that is practicing for State of Utopia,” Porsker the boar grunted.
“I am afraid for you Porsker the boar and you Bhujom the dog,” Mantock the rooster said.
“You were right when you refer to dog and yourself being animals of contempt and abomination. Neither of you are listed in King El Olam good book as being of virtue. What Porsker the boar did not tell you is that The Light Bearer uses you both to get back at King El Olam. The Light Bearer has many invisible servants that works through and in man. That is why our masters are on opposite sides. Just like man you are susceptible to being invaded by The Light Bearers servants.” Mantock the Rooster said looking at the dog and pig alternately.
“I do not think they will be so happy to invade us,” Porsker the boar grunted.
“Why?” Montock the rooster crowed.
“We may go crazy and commit mass suicide, I am not sure they would want to be caught in a dead carcass,” Porsker the boar answered in a grunt.
“The reality is man will be involved in a battle. He will be aligned on two fronts one for King El Olam and the Other for The Light Bearer. The animals too have taken sides because the animals too wanted to be rid of man. It does not matter which side man is on we are aligned to man; we are totally dependent on man for our food and survival therefore we cannot side with the animals that want to see man exterminated. That means that we have to side with the animals aligned with King El Olam.” Brestie Parrot screeched soothingly.
“That mean we have a lot of traitors among our kind” Porsker the boar grunted in laughter.
“What is it you find so funny?” this time it was it was Bhujom the dog that asked boar the question.
“Dog is renowned for his faithfulness to man and is known to have sacrificed his life for man. There are some dogs and cats I understand that have pledged support for the animals that have sided with The Light Bearer. If man is destroyed how will dog benefit? He does not benefit in fact it will mean no more pampering but he must go out and hunt his food. Dog will remain true to his nature and be faithful to man and so will the rest of us. Do you understand now why although we pledged support to the animals it remain that no one trust us because of our loyalty to man. If we are loyal to man then of necessity we have to align with those animals supporting King El Olam. The Light Bearer has a problem because he can never come between dog and his master man, or we animals and man and he need that in his plans.” Porsker the boar was grunting with laughter as he explained how he viewed the matter.
The others animals and the parrot understood Porsker the boar’s reasoning and joined in the laughter.
In his most solemn voice Bhujom the dog barked “I do not like being called a traitor. It is in my nature to be faithful to man and anyone that has a problem with that should blame King El Olam …” Bhujom the dog broke off because there was the distinct clearing of a man’s throat among the animals. They looked at Brestie the parrot because he was the only one that could imitate man’s voice.
“It was not me,” Brestie the parrot screeched.
Bhujom the dog barked threateningly and the hair on his back bristled as he got ready to attack. The animals looked in the direction that Bhujom the dog was looking and saw the back of a man walking away from their meeting. The man turned and looked at the animals and in response Brestie the parrot and Bhujom the dog sat and whined happily. The man clearly had been in their meeting and yet neither Bhujom the dog nor Porsker the boar had picked up his scent.
“Who was that?”Brestie the parrot asked.
“I do not know but he was not a threat,” Bhujom the dog responded.
“Why didn’t you attack him?” Brestie the parrot asked
“All is okay, I recognized him from ancient times, we have nothing to fear,” Porsker the boar grunted in a matter of fact manner.
“Do not tell me that was he,” Thomp the cat said with awe.
“Yes it was him for real,” the chorused response came in unison.
“I thought that Theldon the donkey took the prize for being the biggest liar I ever came across, I think I owe that ass an apology the next time that I see him,” Thomp the cat purred.
